BCCI banned Prithvi Shaw for a doping violation

Prithvi Shaw will be not available for selections up to 15 November 2019. He has been handed a back dated suspension for a doping violation.

Shaw accepted the BCCI charge and explained the substance's consumption by saying that it was present in an over-the-counter cough syrup that he purchased to treat a Respiratory Tract Infection. The BCCI have accepted Shaw's version of events and content that the substance was not taken for performance-enhancing purposes.

He will still face an eight-month ban, albeit one that will be backdated to 16 March. Shaw, who scored a hundred on Test debut in October 2018, will also not be allowed to use the facilities at or train with any club or member organisation of the BCCI until 15 September, 2019.

Reacting to the news, Shaw put out a statement on his Twitter account. He said: "I accept my fate with all sincerity. While I am still nursing an injury which I suffered during my last tournament, this news has really shaken me."

He added: "Cricket is my life & there is no bigger pride for me than playing for India & Mumbai and I will come out of this faster & stronger."
